Same-Sex Parents Closer to Superannuation Equity

Gay groups are delighted with the news that the Australian Christian Lobby has dropped its opposition to proposed changes to superannuation laws. Under the new legislation, same-sex couples and their children would be given equal access to superannuation benefits. Currently, those in gay relationships are not able to nominate their partners to receive super benefits in the event of death, for example.
The laws are currently under investigation by the senate, with findings expected to be announced in September. The Australian Christian Lobby still maintains its concern about wording in the legislation that removes the use of the terms husband and wife and replaces them with partner.
