Nicole Richie Does Something Useful

Who knew she had it in her. Socialite, wannabe singer and mother to baby Harlow, Nicole Richie has added philanthropist to her repertoire (but can she spell it?)
Nicole plans to launch an online gift registry this spring that will provide baby products to mothers in need through her Richie-Madden Children’s Foundation. She began the charity with partner Joel Madden when she was pregnant with daughter Harlow (now 7-months-old.)
She hopes that the service will connect needy mums with organisations who have items to give. She told People magazine:
“We take for granted the basic necessities. For some families, it’s a serious struggle.” “This is one way to ease the financial burden, and help new babies have a good start in life. We are only working with companies and products that Joel and I would use. We’re checking every product out for safety — and all products are BPA-free.”
People reports that eligible families will sign up through local social service agencies. A list of baby products they need — such as cots, strollers or blankets — will be posted on the web site. Donors can view the wish-lists and choose what to contribute (much like a wedding or baby gift registry).
Not a bad idea at all. Good on you, Richie!
