Quentin Bryce sworn in as G-G

Finally a positive story about women in politics. Quentin Bryce has just been sworn in as Australia’s 25th governor-general, breaking 107 years of tradition as the first woman in the job. The former lawyer,academic and advocate of women’s rights and human rights is a universally popular choice.

Although the role is largely ceremonial, it is nice to see a classy, intelligent woman reach one of the highest posts in the land.

Bryce is pictured above with her five grand-daughters.
