Feeling the heat but stranded from the ocean? We know your pain. But being without the sea or a pool doesn’t mean your kids can’t experience the chills and thrills of water play. Grab the hose and fill up one of these water tables — then just sit back as your tots splash away the afternoon.

Step2 Sand and Water Cart — $299
Want thirty minutes to chill out with a book that isn’t about green eggs and ham? Invest in this way-cool water table. Load up half the toy with sand and the other with water (it holds 18 kilos of sand and two litres of water) and let your kids loose. Rated for children with special needs, this toy is easily accessible for most kids. We love the wheels (it’s a snap to roll this to different spots in the yard), the SPF-40 umbrella, and the protective lid that keeps the play area clean and dry. Toys are included, but our kids did groan about the crashing tower — toss in a few of your own things to keep the splashdown interesting.
