RIP Paul Newman. Now, Everyone: DESTROY YOUR CIGARETTES

Posted by HerBadMother at 3:47 PM on September 29, 2008

Paul Newman died of lung cancer yesterday, and his death has already triggered some discussion about the prevalence of smoking in Hollywood. Everybody smokes in Hollywood, if you believe the gossipnets – not to mention all the photographic evidence. Even many of our much-beloved and only-occasionally-maligned celebrity parents: unrepentant smokers.

In fact, according to one Hollywood gossip, Jennifer Lopez may be one of the only top-tier celebrities who doesn't smoke. Does this mean that all those adorable dimpled celebutots are going to lose their parents to lung disease? (Britney's brood, for example?) (Nicole's little one?) (Sarah Jessica Parker and Matthew Broderick!?!?!)

Paul Newman is said to have quit smoking thirty years ago – but medical experts commenting on his death say that doesn't necessarily matter: “Once lungs are damaged they don’t grow back,” said Dr. Len Horovitz. “It’s like brain tissue — once it’s gone, it’s gone forever.”

Powerful reason to quit smoking RIGHT NOW. Especially if you have kids. I'm looking at you, Ferris.
