Britney Spears: “I Lost Myself”

Britney Spears is opening up in a 90 minute documentary titled Britney: For the Record and the 26-year-old singer will talk about what she went through during a very dark period in her life.  She says you can call her a lot of things – pop star, mum, tabloid queen – but don't call her a victim.

Brit says, "I don't like that…'the victim', I've been placed in that category for some reason."  She also doesn't like being labelled as the 'comeback kid.'

"I've been here the whole time, you know," she says.  "I've taken some time off for myself and I've been recording for a while, I haven't been completely in the spotlight but I've been doing what I've always done."

Spears talks about being influenced by certain people (although she doesn't specifically name them), she's referring to her then "manager" Sam Lutfi and her former boyfriend, Adnan Ghalib.

Britney adds, "I totally lost my way.  I lost focus… I lost myself.  I had that type of nature within me that wanted to bail out.  I've never wanted to become one of those prisoner people.  I always wanted to feel free… I think that was always a part of me that kind of got me in trouble."

She continues, "There were certain people in my life that were just bad people… I was lonely and I really paid the consequences for that.

"I feel like when you do something wrong, you learn from it and you move on… But it's like I'm having to pay for it for a really long time."

She paid the ultimate price didn't she?  Losing custody of her sons, Sean Preston and Jayden James.  But, she's been working hard to get better and hopefully someday she'll have her boys back.

The show airs on MTV November 30 at 10 p.m. ET.
