Discuss: Will You Cut Personal Spending to Buy Your Kids Toys?

Posted by Erin Behan at 4:30 PM on November 27, 2008

The New York Times has an interesting article that tracks the trend of mothers going without designer jeans so their children can have designer toys. Obviously, mums have always been ones to sacrifice for their families, and while the idea behind the article is sound, it still rings a bit shallow to me. If one really can't afford all the best toys, why not have a discussion with your kids about why the cut-backs have to happen (for the whole family)? What steps are you taking this year to help soften the financial blow of Christmas in a time of economic uncertainty? Discuss.
