Katie Holmes: Tom Doesn’t Control Me

Katie Holmes and Tom Cruise began a very public, romantic relationship in 2005, welcomed daughter Suri in early 2006, and later that year, tied the knot.  It's believed that Cruise "controls" Katie but she wants to set the record straight that he does no such thing.

In an interview with The New York Times Style Magazine, Katie says, "There's a misconception about me that I just became this wallflower, this woman who doesn't have any control of her life.

"And that's pretty wrong.  From the very beginning, I've made choices in my life that have been very strong."

Katie, 29, admits to having a school-girl crush on Tom.

"When I met Tom I was completely in love and, yes, I admired him growing up – he's Tom Cruise!  … When I met him, he was so warm and I throught, Wow!  You can be a superstar and a human being.  He made me feel so amazing."

Tom felt the same way and even purchased an engagement ring after their very first date – he was that sure Katie was the one.

Does Kate missing having a more non-celebrity existence?  No.

"My life has expanded.  My family and friends are all part of this bigger life."

Holmes says she's happy and doesn't pay too much attention to what's said about her.  She adds, "I have too much to do."

She's currently starring on Broadway in All My Sons and she spends a lot of time with 2-year-old Suri.

"I'm a mom and an actress with a play to do every night.  I can't pay attention to all that noise."
