Man Says Drinking Breastmilk Cured His Cancer

Posted by JeanneSager at 7:15 AM on December 24, 2008

We've all heard breast is best, but best for a middle-aged man fighting prostate cancer? Howard Cohen says he chased away the cancer cells with daily drinks of mother's milk – human mothers.

In this video sent my way after reporting on the Facebook ban of breastfeeding mothers, Cohen, an American, chats with a British interviewer about his decision to start drinking breastmilk – based on a study found by wife Barbara. Asked by the interviewer if he ever though it was disgusting, Cohen says it's "perfectly natural."

"I saw it as something I could do in addition to traditional
medicine, I didn't know I was going to be doing it instead of
traditional medicine," he says, claiming that his continued regimen of twice-weekly breastmilk shakes has kept the prostate cancer at bay for more than nine years.

So we know that breastmilk is natural for babies, yes. Natural for the rest of us?

Cohen says it's an "extremely healthy thing for humans to do." And while I'd agree it's healthy for babies, what he doesn't mention in the video (below), is that breastmilk is made by a mother specifically for her baby. Yes, you can argue that cow's milk is made for that calf or goat's milk for that kid. But there are also processes in place to ensure goat or cow's milk don't contain any viruses – while people who have bought into this study and Cohen's marketing of it, are buying milk by the frozen pack via the Internet – with no such guarantees.

And some people aren't even using it for such lofty goals as curing cancer – there are apparently guys buying breastmilk from mums who think they're helping a mum who can't breastfeed or people with cancer . . . and they're getting off on it. One mum says she had ten men contact her shortly after she posted an offer to sell her breastmilk online. One said his wife had died, and he needed it for his baby – but he couldn't provide her proof that he had a baby. Not that Cohen is to blame, certainly, for these freaky horny guys!

But it's scary to me to think that people are out there randomly buying breastmilk. Would you do as Cohen has, take to drinking breastmilk in lieu of traditional medicine?

Of course I would drink human milk to try and treat myself for a myriad of illnesses. Maybe sometimes along with *western* medecine (I don’t like the term traditional: how long has our medecine been around compared to breastmilk? not long at all!) but definitely if it had shown success in treating said ailment I would, without a question, drink it. I recently was battling a gastro bug with my own milk, drinking it as well as grapefruit seed extract in 7-up. Forget dramamine when you can’t keep it down, and pedialyte or whatever doesn’t come with antibodies to try and *cure* the bug…just with electrolytes to try and help you get better once you can keep it down.
