“Lactose Labotomy” — Killing Yourself Over Lost Sleep?

Posted by Mike Adamick at 8:30 AM on February 12, 2009

I’m not usually one to feel much empathy for big Hollywood stars and their “problems.” On some level, I know it must be difficult to live in Chateau Marmont for three months while your Malibu mansion is being remodeled, but I’m not breaking out the sympathy violin and singing sad songs of commiseration.

But this clip of Naomi Watts on David Letterman the other night (thanks Jezebel) had me both frowning in sympathy and laughing my weary ass off. It doesn’t matter who you are: Kids are going to make you sleepless and at some point, you are going to feel like dying.

It’s worth a look. Watts explains the brain dead effect of newborns as “Lactose Labotomies,” while Dave admits that at some point after his son was born, the best way to regain sleep, he considered, was killing himself.
