The Gruffalo Comes to a Stage Near You

“A mouse took a stroll through the deep dark woods…”
I’m guessing many parents will recognise the opening words of Julia Donaldson’s book The Gruffalo, which has become a modern classic.
Mouse has now brought his journey to the stage, in a show which will be touring NSW and the ACT from May.
The musical adaptation has had rave reviews and sell-out shows in it’s season on London’s West End and Broadway.
Critics have described the show was “pitched at the right level for three to seven-year-olds, as well as the big ones they have brought along with them. Clever storytelling… enchanting characterisation… a rare treat that really is for all the family” (The Scotsman)
I can’t wait to see it.
Took my grandson to the stage show. Struck me as a money making exercise with every expense spared. The 3 actors involved worked hard, but their costumes were token efforts – i.e. mouses ears stuck on the side of the actresses head to let you know she was the mouse & the Gruffalo didn’t look like the Gruffalo in the book, so his appearance on stage – which should have been the exciting climax to the build up – was just baffling to the youngsters watching. My Grandson turned to me with downturned mouth and said’ But that’s not the Gruffalo’. Bit of a rip off really.
