Bookworm: A Nursery Rhyme Collection Worth Keeping
Posted by Kym Weathersten at 12:59 PM on May 20, 2009

Collections of nursery rhymes are a dime a dozen in the childrens’ book market, but this latest effort by former graphic designer, Susanna Lockheart is a gem. Companion to last year’s If You Love A Fairytale, this beautifully presented hard cover volume of verses features 13 time-honoured rhymes, from The Old Women Who Lived In A Shoe to Hey Diddle Diddle, Pat-A-Cake and Wee Willie Winkie.
As is often the case with children’s books — and Lockheart’s own work — the stand out here are the illustrations. Accompanied by a large font (for short-sighted-parents), each rhyme is well laid out on a double page spread; while the clever sliding pictures means the verses come alive with the simple turn of the page. This is truly one to treasure.
If You Love A Fairytale is published by Allen & Unwin , RRP of $AU35.
