Toddler Takes Joy Ride In Family Van

“Don’t take the family car out for a joy ride,” is not a safety rule you’d typically think to drill into your kids’ heads. But parents from Oregon are wishing they had thought to do just that.
Their four-year-old boy recently took the family minivan for a well calculated drive around the block. His parents keep the keys on a rack high up against the wall. But a little height wasn’t about to stop the resourceful tot. He pushed a stool up against the wall, retrieved the keys, climbed into the driver’s side of the van, put the keys in the ignition, and put the vehicle in drive.
Apparently, he had been closely observing this startup ritual for quite some time.
Fortunately, the boy only drove about 100 feet before he crashed into a ditch. The accident left him physically unscathed, and the van only had minimal damage.
Police have decided not to press charges, saying that the embarrassment of their child’s well-known mischief is punishment enough.
