Angelina Jolie, who attended a ceremony honoring refugees at the National Geographic Society headquarters in Washington, D.C. on Thursday (June 18), said she will raise her children with a more “accurate view of the world.”

Jolie, mom-of-six: Maddox, 7, Pax, 5, Zahara, 3 1/2, Shiloh, 3, and 11-month-old twins, Knox and Vivienne, realizes she grew up very privileged compared to the refugees of Afghanistan and Pakistan, and doesn’t want to take anything for granted.

“I would have been less self-destructive,” admits the 34-year-old actress.  She’s vowed to raise her kids differently.

She told NBC’s Ann Curry, “I hope if I raise them with a more accurate view of the world than I was raised with, then they will naturally be better people.”

Jolie added, “And I’m sure my children will be visiting and learning from refugees in the future.”

In a recent interview with Anderson Cooper on “360″ she said, “Some of my kids are from countries that have seen conflict.  I usually just explain to them that there are other families in the world that aren’t as fortunate as ours and other kids.

“And so I tell them that it’s important for all of us to do what we can and then go to these places and understand what’s happening.  So I think they’re just being raised that this is the normal thing to do… Hopefully I’ll take them to as many countries as I can and raise them with an education of the world.”
