The Australian music industry is all a-twitter following the sudden death of Michael Jackson this morning. Here’s a roundup of their tributes to the King of Pop.
Lisa Origliasso from The Veronicas: ”I wish I got to tell him how much his music & existence changed my life.”
DJ Ruby Rose: “It is a day that reminds you to tell the ones close to you how special they are. X RIP Farrah and MJ.”
Delta Goodrem: ”He was my biggest inspiration and will forever live on in my heart. I feel so thankful for him sharing his brilliance.”
Australian Idol winner Wes Carr: ”Pretty upsetting to wake up to that news, I’m going to play one hell of a show tonight in honour of the great man.”
TV personality Andrew G: ”The King of Pop, greatest entertainer ever, is gone. Thanks for the boogie.”
Nikki Webster: ”The music industry will not be the same. You are a true inspiration and genius.”
Rock band Grinspoon: “You knock me off of my feet now baby hoo hoo… Bye Michael. Thanks for the tunes.”
Veteran music industry reporter Ian ‘Molly’ Meldrum spoke at length about Jackson’s passing on his radio show:
“I try to explain to people, it’s really hard to work out the Michael Jackson thing because he has always been a star, he has only even known since being eight years old, as being a star. He lives in the Michael Jackson world.”
“Michael Jackson was in that stratosphere of your John Lennons, your Elvis Presleys you know. It’s hard to believe he is not here and it is hard to believe he is about to come in his concerts in England and he has sold over 50 in London alone.”
“It’s one of those things, I am still trying to get my head around it.”
Is anyone talking about anything else today?
