my nephew is the same. we try and pop him into bed around 8.30 which has been his 'bedtime' since he was born, and he will sleep a while then get up and watch tv with us and go back to bed when we do, which means he will also wake up when we do, between 8 and 9am. wonderful for night shift workers. his mum has been slammed for not sending him to bed earlier or making sure he stays there, but really, why do it? all it does is cause upset and tantrums because he just isnt tired enough to stay asleep yet. day naps are the same, if he doesnt want to go down before lunch, he will usually fal asleep in the pram while we are on out out and abouts, to be transferred into bed when we get home. its good to see he isnt the only one.

Wonderful!

Hi Jeanne,
it is soooooo refreshing to read your story in our culture so focussed on sleep - it is so BORING to have nearly everyone instantly start saying "How is baby sleeping?" (As if I even care - we sleep share and I don't look at the clock).

We go through stages os trying a bedtime, but often end up just going to bed when tired - it's pretty clear when they are tired.

Yeah, I do wish I had one of those kids that slept 12-18 hours a day (LOL) but I don't! They are fine - I could use more sleep though, LOL. Early risers - no matter when they go to bed.

I've only 'met' two others who let their child go to sleep at their own body clock - it is a relaxing thing to do - but there is always the "Ahh, what would so and so think?" that we need to not care about - they are thinking the same thing no doubt...
