It's going to be funny when people find old memoirs of L.R. Hubbard, and the very last sentence it says "I was just kidding, you guys are dumb."

Scientology is what happens when bad science fiction, multilevel marketing schemes, and a complete lack of ethics collide.

Jay, what level are you at in the cult? How much money have you spent to get there in auditing and seminars and so on? Notice the price keeps going up and up the further up you get? Notice that a person's readiness to progress to the next level has more to do with their income than their actual spiritual development?

I'm not a fan of _any_ religion, but some are benign and others are downright vile. Scientology, while not the most vile in the world, is definitely ranking right up there, just a step below, say, Heaven's Gate or the People's Temple (who engaged in mass suicide in Jonestown). Your religion destroys peoples lives just to make people like David Miscavige rich. Shame on them and shame on you for defending them.

It would be much to Mr. Travolta's advantage to escape the grubby clutches of these dangerous, unscrupulous hypocrites. It's obvious to anyone who bothers to seek out the facts that $cientology is, to put it mildly, a cruel, irrational cult founded by a cynical psychopath. It has nothing to do with spiritual advancement and everything to do with making money by systematic deception, intimidation and bullying.

"There’s nothing in Scientology that “recognizes” or doesn’t recognize an actual disease such as autism. Scientologists generally tend to distrust the diagnoses of psychiatrists, because they are based on usually brief, subjective “tests” that are then interpreted by the psychiatrist to mean whatever he thinks."

HYSTERICAL!!!

That is actually what $cientology Auditing is. $cientology is no where near a "SCIENCE." When Dianetics and $cientology have been tested by the Scientitif, Psychological and Medical communities, it has been dismissed due to utter ridiculousness and insane assertions. In fact the Psychology industries denial of Dianetics back in the 50's is what got L Ron Hubbard started on his crusade against the mental health industry. $cientologists want to replace this industry with their own brand of Voodoo space stories and dangerous medical claims. This needs to be stopped now.

No one is buying your garbage Jay. But please keep posting hypocritical and ridiculous statements that you can't back up, it's HYSTERICAL!

"The comments on this post so far tend to reflect, shall I say, animonisity toward the religion of Scientology. It’s a modern, socially-acceptable thing to be a bigot where this religion is concerned, but such bigotry still gives me the creeps."

Jay is obviously a $cientologist. They are the only ones who defend their Cult. First of all just because the IRS gives Tax exemption, after decades of denying it and over 1000 lawsuits against the IRS from $cientology, and just because a failed Sci Fi writer says it is doesn't make it so. If CoCa Cola declared themselves a religion I'd be outwardly against it also. $cientology is no religion. They won't even discuss what it is they believe. It's all double speak and semantics with them. Don't be fooled by Jay and Kim, both $cientology shills following every news story online to comment on in defense of Co$. $cientology is a dangerous cult and WAS listed as the number one most dangerous cult by the Cult Awareness Network. That is until $cientology sued them into bankruptcy and then bought and now operate them. So if/when you call the Cult Awareness Network you'll be speaking to a $cientologist. Nothing shaddy about that????

Jay, if what you say is true, why have so many Scientologists died after eschewing medical treatment for common ailments such as epilepsy or cancer? LRon claims 90% of all illnesses were psychosomatic and would respond to Dianetic processing- so yeah, Scientologists, despite public protestation, are NOT fond of medicine.

It was founded by a mediocre science-fiction writer who once claimed to have travelled back in time to ancient Rome. Enough said.

That a single person is willing to claim this as their "religion" is a testament to the profound stupidity of our species. Sadly, it has cost more than a few lives, and more than a few people's sanity.

Uh, Jay, you are clearly a Scientologist trying to hide the cult's crazy from public viewing. Scientology doesn't just "distrust" psychiatry and psychology. Scientologists quite openly claim psychiatry was responsible for, amongst other things, the Holocaust. This is not "helping people." This is peddling a fundamentally unsound vision of the world to unstable people who can then be taken advantage of emotionally and financially. (Does one really wonder why celebrities are attracted?)

To be sure, if one wishes to believe that autism is caused by the bad vibes leftover by the galactic overload Xenu blowing people up in volcanoes one billion years ago (yeah, just google it), that is one's prerogative. Let people believe what they will. But if one then wishes to socially isolate and extort money from the mentally unstable while simultaneously turning them against the very science that might genuinely be able to help them--well, that's cruel, exploitative, and generally vile behaviour. We would not tolerate it of Exxon Mobile simply because they rebranded themselves the Church of Exxon Mobile and put a cross-like image on their annual report, now would we?

It is by no means bigoted to stand up for human dignity by pointing this out. It would be reprehensible to deny it in deference to a group of bullies using the open-mindedness of people of good conscience to mask their madness.

The comments on this post so far tend to reflect, shall I say, animonisity toward the religion of Scientology. It's a modern, socially-acceptable thing to be a bigot where this religion is concerned, but such bigotry still gives me the creeps.

There's nothing in Scientology that "recognizes" or doesn't recognize an actual disease such as autism. Scientologists generally tend to distrust the diagnoses of psychiatrists, because they are based on usually brief, subjective "tests" that are then interpreted by the psychiatrist to mean whatever he thinks. And then boatloads of money are thrown at psychiatric drugs which have long been known to produce horrendous side effects. So yeah, we have a bone to pick with psych drugging. That said, I know from personal experience over the last 40 years as a practicing Scientologist, that when someone is sick, and drugs are the answer (such as antibiotics for a raging infection, or insulin for a diabetic, or heart medications or whatever, as long as there's a valid medical condition you can prove (to yourself) with a lab test or physical exam, then Scientologists have no objections to taking medically necessary drugs.

It's a persistent rumor spread by those infested with hate toward Scientology, to make it sound creepy and controlling. It's not.

BTW, the idea of John Travolta leaving Scientology because of his son's death is laughable. Where do you guys think this up?

Scientology *helps* people. Not everybody, but a lot of people swear by it. Some people really, really don't like that it helps people. It just makes them all kinds of crazy thinking about that. Real help for real people trying to get off drugs, or communicate better, or understand themselves and others better.

The idea of people actually getting better just drives some people insane.

Don't be one of them.

Also, I knew Lisa McPherson, which is more than any of you jerks can say. She was a nice girl. She died of an aneurism on the way to a hospital, not dehydration in some basement somewhere.

You want to be outraged about someone dying, pick any of the 10,000 people who die in psych institutions in America every year.
