I have two children that will try any new types of foods, and one who has been living on a very basic diet for years (she is now ten).

She has lived on mainly weetbix (Yay!!) for breakfast, and sometimes white toast with a scraping of vegemite. Every school lunch for the last year & a half has had to be nutella sandwiches. Of course, I have done the whole 'hiding vegetables' thing - but in the past year or so, I have given up tormenting her with pleas to try more 'normal' foods. She is stubborn, and bribery is usually not successful.

Going out for a family meal is a problem - some restaurants for example, don't serve hot chips! It is embarrassing at times, going to a friend's house for dinner, and asking for a vegemite sandwich, because #3 child won't eat the carefully prepared meal made for us, even though she is supposedly past the fussy toddler years.

But suddenly at ten years of age, she wants to try some pizza (ham & cheese only - but it's a start). And ham & cheese rolls for lunch. And 'I might have a tiny bit of that special sauce that you've made on my chicken Mum'. And 'that broccoli is like little trees, I'll have some of those'.

Whoa!

It has taken a long time, and I'm sure we have a lot further to go, but I think that her taste buds are suddenly maturing, and she will end up O.K.
