Queensland Teenager To Stand Trial Over Abortion

In yet another development in the ongoing Queensland abortion laws saga, Queensland teenager Tegan Simon Leach has been ordered to stand trial on abortion charges.
Tegan, 19, has been charged with procuring an abortion, while her partner Sergie Brennan, 21, will face trial on the charges of supplying drugs to procure an abortion.
The couple were arrested back in February after police found empty packets of the abortion drugs Milofian and Misoprostol, as well as instructions in Ukranian, during an unrelated search of their Cairns home.
In her decision, handed down this morning, magistrate Sandra Pearson said there was sufficient evidence of Tegan’s intention to procure a miscarraige in her admission made to police shortly after her arrest.
A court date for the trial has yet to be confirmed.
The decision comes just one week after the Queensland Government rushed changes to clarify the legality of medical abortions.
We here at Babble are adamant that the Queensland abortion laws must change, but what do you think? Is Tegan’s case yet more proof that the legislation must be addressed?
