Kate Winslet was out with her kids Mia, 8, and Joe, 5, in New York City today. Looks like a not-so-glamorous part of the city – not a boutique or panini café in sight. I think for celebrities this is known as ‘roughing it.’

Winslet recently fought back at tabloid reports that accused her of spending too much time away from her kids while filming. “Who the hell is going to go and leave their children for five months? Obviously not me. I would never leave my children for five months, no matter whether they’re five, 15, or 55.”

I’m with you on the five and 15 part, Kate, but I think by the time mine are 55 I might let them steal away for five months or even a year. Maybe.

Actress Kate Winslet won an Oscar for Best Actress last Sunday and while some may have thought her choice of dress was lovely, there was one person who was “mortified” about her gray dress… her 8-year-old daughter, Mia!

Winslet called her children – Mia, and son Joe Alfie, 5 – backstage, after her win. Mia couldn’t believe her mother’s gray Yves St. Laurent evening gown.

Kate, told Oprah on Monday’s show, “I said, ‘Hi, Mia, did you jump up and down?’ “[Mia] says: ‘Yes, I did, Mum, I did. I need to talk to you about the dress, it was gray.’ She was absolutely mortified I wore a gray dress.”

The 33-year-old told Oprah she didn’t want a lot of dresses being sent to her, especially in these tough economic times.

“I think in this time in the economy, it’s just not nice to have people make lots of dresses and you just wear one out of a possible five. So Yves St. Laurent very kindly said, ‘We’d like to make something for you,’ and that was what we did.”

Kate also talked about not doing any more nude scenes because of her children.

“I have done quite a lot of nudity, and I feel like my kids they’re 8 and 5 now, maybe they’re going to start to become aware of the amount of nudity I’ve done. I just sort of feel like I can’t get away with it that much longer.”

Another reason I love her – she’s so real and seems like such a great mum! (And ya, she’s a wonderful actress too!)

Men (and some women) have been loving Kate Winslet’s ass for years. Now, she’s going to start loving it, too. But not for the reasons you might think – Winslet says she is tired of torturing themselves over the size of their behinds.

“I don’t know a single woman who doesn’t stand up and check the tushie before she walks out the door,” she said in an interview with Nightline. “I’ve decided I am going to start loving my backside, really just saying, yes. Because I don’t know anyone who does that, you know? And for my daughter [Mia, 8], I want to be able to say to her, I love this.

“[Young women] look at all of us, myself included, on these magazine covers and they think, ‘my God, how does she get skin like that?’” she continued. “And I can tell you, I have so many blemishes under this makeup that have been so fabulously covered. I promise you. I promise you.

“But I did realise a few years ago that no one actually talks about this retouching thing. It’s like a secret or something,” she says. “I’m damned if it’s going to be a secret anymore. I really want these young women to know we don’t look like this.”

Bravo to Kate for standing up to the unrealistic expectations women face from the media. And as a parent of girls myself, I give extra kudos to her for setting a good example for her daughter Mia.

Now if I could just stop staring at my butt in the mirror…

Sometimes the best advice comes from an unexpected place.

So many celebrities have life coaches and managers that tell them what actions they need to take and what image they need to portray.

Not Kate Winslet, she took the advice of her kids, Mia and Joe. She’s just regular old Kate with them. Except of course when she is in character for a movie, then she stays in character, even when reading them their bedtime stories.

While filming The Reader she read bedtime stories with a German accent. Her kids didn’t like it very much, they wanted her to just be herself. They said, ” ‘Mum, just be plain. Don’t do any funny stuff like voices. Just be regular.”

Kate knows that there will come a day when they think that her movie star status is cool, but it’s just not now.

Kate Winslet has won one of the early awards of the evening at the 2009 SAG Awards. Winslet won her award for outstanding performance by a female actor in a supporting role for “The Reader” in which she played a former concentration camp guard.

“It’s really an honor to be included in what I think is such a remarkable year and be acknowledged by my peers in this way,” Winslet said in her acceptance speech. “I really feel like everybody should be given a medal.”

Winslet already won the same prize at this year’s Golden Globes. When accepting her award on that night, Kate thanked her two children Mia and Joe for “coming on this adventure with mummy”.

“I love being a mum,” she said tearfully. “My priorities in life have just completely shifted since I had my two children. Mia and Joe are the most important thing in my world.”

OK, maybe not quite, but almost. Kate Winslet showed up on Oprah’s show yesterday and the Queen of All Media did an entire soliloquy about Kate’s boobs. No, I’m not kidding. The video is below. Kate is mum to Mia, 8, and Joe Alfie, 5.

Kate was there to promote “The Reader,” her newest movie, in which she does a tonne of nearly hardcore love scenes and shows her real, live breasts.

“I love that you have real breasts!” Oprah gushed. “Your breasts do what real breasts do!”

What? They stare at me all the time? Because that’s what most breasts do around me. It’s really annoying. I’m trying to concentrate, ladies! Have a heart.

Kate Winslet, after having two kids, admits that she has to work harder at keeping fit.  She says that being nude on film gives her great incentive to get in shape, especially playing an older woman seducing a teen in her latest flick, The Reader.  So, how does she get that sexy body?

The 33-year-old actress could have had a body double in the movie, but opted not to – she wanted the nude scenes to be real.

She said, "The body on screen is all me.  I'm doing alright.  I've had two kids [Mia, 8, and Joe, 5].  I don't look in the mirror and go:  'I look fantastic!'  I don't believe in perfection, but I do believe in saying: 'This is who I am.'"

And the secret to her sexy shape?  No secret really – just common sense and hard work.

Kate avoids carbs and alcohol.

She continues, "I don't eat pasta or bread, I don't drink and I limit processed foods.

"I don't go to the gym.  I go through phases where I think, 'I really should go.'  But I work out on the living room carpet.  It's great – no one's looking at you, no one's telling you what to do.

"I have a mat and weights and I do a stomach and burn thing."

She adds, she's not perfect – she's got her flaws like everyone else.

"I have a crumble baby belly, my boobs are the worse for wear after two kids.  I'm not a supermodel.  I just do whatever I can to stay healthy."

I like her – she seems so normal, well as normal as any celebrity can be!

Ah, Kate Winslet…simply gorgeous. She's one of those "real" women, with curves and everything. And now she's topping the cover of next month's "Elle" magazine, the UK version. Kate says she's finally comfortable with her body.

The 33-year-old mom of Mia Honey, 8, and Joe Alfie, 5, says she's faced years of ups and downs with her weight.

"I’ve achieved my ultimate figure," says Kate. "I still don’t believe in this craziness for being skinny, but I eat sensibly and I don’t stuff down chocolate biscuits. I don’t go to the gym because I don’t have time but I do Pilates workout DVDs for 20 minutes or more every day at home."

Eating sensibly? Exercising? What kind of miracle weight loss is that?

Kate Winslet is defending herself against accusations that she is a "porn-star".

She appears in the new movie Revolutionary Road with Leonardo DiCaprio and has appeared nude in several of her films.

Her husband Sam Mendes was her director and she said that he doesn't get jealous.

She said: "Of course Sam doesn't get jealous. I'm not a porn star. I'm not walking out there and actually having sex with other people for my job. He doesn't get jealous at all, not in the slightest. It's really not a big deal.

"I feel that any level of nudity in films that I have been a part of has been absolutely relevant and actually enhanced the story."

Kate recently revealed she struggled with her nude scenes in new post-war drama 'The Reader'.

She said: "It really took me to the brink in many ways. To bring my character Hanna Schmitz to life was an absolutely enormous challenge and a huge responsibility as well, because it's a much-loved piece of German literature. Many people have differing opinions of Hanna Schmitz – they love her, they loathe her."

She will have to defend herself to her kids when they get older, but if she raises them with the mentality that nudity isn't bad (it's not), then they will be okay with it.
