No paper planes here. Rapper M.I.A. was seen whisking baby Ikhyd through LAX over the weekend. Is the kid wearing one of these, or is it a full head of hair?

My teenaged daughter recently discovered M.I.A., and while I applaud her taste I think I could definitely do without hearing my 13-year-old singing, “Bona fide hustler making my name.” Next thing you know she’ll be telling me the song really isn’t even about paper airplanes at all. Kids these days.

It only takes 9 words from a performer at Coachella to wreak havoc, yikes, those must have been some powerfully spoken words.

Oh wait, it was M.I.A. asking for her fans to come up on stage. M.I.A. called out to her fans, ” Can I get some people up on the stage?” and some of the audience complied.

Oh my, the security guards must have been going crazy. They try so hard to keep everything copacetic, but she threw a monkey wrench in their carefully laid out plans.

The guards tried to keep the audience off the stage, but she yelled out, ” Let ‘em on”.

Were you one of those who rushed the stage at Coachella? Me neither, I had a yard sale. How very grown up of me, I know.

Remember when everyone thought that M.I.A. had gone and given her baby that crazy name, Ickitt? And then she came out and said, no way would I give my baby a stupid name like that? Well, don't worry – she's finally released the baby's real name, and it's…Ikhyd.

TMZ has gotten it's hands on the baby's birth certificate, and his official name is Ikhyd Edgar Arular Bronfman.

And we thought she was going to give him one of those unusual baby names.

Well, I guess the little guy can always just call himself 'Ed' for short.

What do you think of the name Ickitt? According to oodles of blog reports today, that was the name recording artist M.I.A gave to her baby boy born this February shortly after her awesome appearance at the Grammy’s. So did she really brand her newborn something that icky?

No. No she did not. After the rumours spread not unlike wild fire on the world wide web, M.I.A. posted the following, all caps, statement on her MySpace page:

MY BABY IS NOT CALLED ICKITT, PICKIT OR LICKIT THANK YOU VERY MUCH TO ALL THE HOLLYWOOD PRESS. HES A BABY , HE DONT NEED PRESS! I DIDNT RELEASE THE BABY NAME BECAUSE I DIDNT THINK IT WAS NEWS!!!!

BUT I WILL BE BACK WITH SOMETHING NEWS WORTHY SOON , TILL THEN GO PICK ON APPLE, SATCHEL AND MOON UNIT.

LOTS OF LOVE STICKIT!!

I, for one, am releasing a sigh of relief. We don’t need another celebrity kid with a wack-ass name crawling around. Sure they can name their kid anything, but Icklett? Yeah, even from someone with such esoteric tastes as M.I.A, the name is still pretty bad. But I’m wondering who would have the time, energy and motive to spread a rumor about what M.I.A. named her kid. And why Icklett? It’s an odd, odd world we live in.

After giving birth to a baby, it’s a given that one will take some well deserved time off. The big question is, will songstress M.I.A. do just that? M.I.A. gave birth to her son last Wednesday just days after performing very pregnant and on her due date at the Grammy’s. And apparently there is no rest for the weary and the popular, she is scheduled to perform at this Sunday’s Oscars.

M.I.A collaborated with the Indian composer AR Rahman on a song nominated for best original song on the soundtrack for Slumdog Millionaire. On M.I.A. performing Rahman said,”She wants to. In fact, she said she’ll do it with a hologram. She has all these ideas,” he stated in an interview with the BBC. He continued to say, “I don’t know how it’s going to be possible, though. Having a baby is such an important thing in your life – more important than winning an Oscar.” The Oscar producers are very eager to have M.I.A. perform at the award show saying “She’s eager to perform… we’ve said things like ‘We’re willing to have her enter on a large bed’. We’ll make it as easy for her as we can.” Now that I’d like to see. But maybe she’ll just stay home with her newborn son, that’s a pretty sweet prize.

Singer M.I.A. and her fiance Ben Brewer welcomed their first child – a son – on February 11 and she blogged about her little boy here. Although she’s not released the baby’s name or photos, a friend of hers posted a picture of the little one on his MySpace. And what a doll he is!

How do you get labour started? Perform at the Grammy’s. Musician, artist and now new mum, M.I.A., started to have the first pangs of labour hours after performing at the Grammy’s.

On M.I.A.’s MySpace page she says: “SUNDAY NITE I CA M E HOME FROM THE GRAMMY’S STILL IN THE MOOD TO PARTY , I COUDA EASILY GONE OUT BUT I WENT HOME INSEAD , LUCKY I DID!! COZ MY EARLY STAGE LABOUR KICKED IN AROUND 2 AM.”

Yeah, she types in all caps…what can you do.

She continued to say “MY BABY WAS BORN WEDNESDAY , HE IS HEALTHY , FINE , BEAUTIFUL AND THE MOST AMZING THING EVER ON THIS PLANET, OF COURSE IM HIS MUM!!!”

She apparently already has plans which include “ME AND BABY ARE PUTTING OUR TOUR DATES FOR 2010 TOGETHER, AND MAKING MIX TAPES, AND FIGURING OUT A WAY TO BREAK OUT OF THE HOSPITAL!”

Initially M.I.A. had planned a at home water birth, sounds like that didn’t happen. But at least everyone is healthy, and it sounds, happy. Let’s see if she’ll be ready to perform, as scheduled at the upcoming Oscars in support of her contribution to the Slumdog Millionaire soundtrack.

Now we’ve got some video of her performance from the night. Being 10 months pregnant certainly hasn’t stopped her from dropping some badass moves. I think at that stage of my first pregnancy I could only waddle.
