Check this out – she’s hardly recogniseable! One of us here at Babble HQ turns 42 (yes, folks, FORTY BLOODY TWO!) today – but even that old trout can’t remember this ad – and she watched more than her fair share of telly growing up in Adelaide in the 80s (she claims there was nothing else to do except gaze at high rotation even-then-ancient Jerry Lewis and Elvis movies).

Naomi Watts, 40, told Jimmy Kimmel the other night, “Sasha is totally besotted with his father. He calls out for him at night.” And daddy Liev Schreiber “is definitely hands-on and gets up for Sasha. He’s just not as quick. Men don’t move as quickly. Unlike the mothers, who are right there before the first cry.”

Sasha, now 18-1/2 months old, calls out for “dada” quite a bit these days, especially now that there’s younger brother Samuel in the picture. Sammy is now 10 weeks old, and this has Sasha a little confused. With the regular nursing for Sammy, Sasha thinks he should be snacking all the time, too. Not that Naomi is nursing Sasha these days.

“Oh,” she said, “Sasha’s got a full head of teeth now, so, ooooh, no.”

Even though Sasha is showing a bit of jealousy toward Sammy, Naomi is quick to point out, “The love is equally divided. There is just enough love to go ’round.”

Naomi’s latest film, “The International,” is out in theaters now.

Naomi Watts is tired.

She said that it’s easier this time around but she said that she is woozy form lack of sleep.

My boys are 3 and 5 and I’m woozy from lack of sleep too.

Naomi, when asked how she stays alert while promoting her new movie The International, said, ” Oh, I’m not! I’m really never grounded these days. I feel like I’m always five steps behind.”

Sammy, the baby, is still feeding through the night so Naomi isn’t getting much of the good, night time sleep in the dark. You know the good kind that makes you drool, and wake up not knowing where you are.

It’s okay Naomi, it’ll get better soon, we all feel for you.

Naomi Watts always thought she’d have kids by the time she was thirty. The now-40-year-old actress is mum to Sasha, 18 months and Sammy, 2 months, with partner, actor Liev Schreiber, and although she says she’d love to go for another baby, Schreiber walks around saying, “no more babies.” Will Watts get her ‘Brangelina-sized’ brood?

Watts just finished work on a new movie and hopes there’s a couple more this year. She admits her life is hectic as a working mum of two. And she’d like to add to that – by having another baby – hopefully a girl.

Watt’s on more babies:

“I love babies. I look at this little baby and, even after quite an intense birth – they say you have amnesia, as women – I would go a third. It would be nice to have a girl.

“But you should see our house. It’s pretty chaotic right now and I keep making fun of Liev because he keeps walking around going, ‘No more babies, no more babies’, like Rain Man or something.

“I always thought that I would have had kids by 30. I’d like five more. But five is excessive, particularly for someone my age. We’ll see.”

How she’s balancing life as a mom of two now:

“Everyone did warn us that it’s chaotic for the first couple of years, and we’re in that period where I’m chasing my toddler whilst feeding my baby. You’re nursing and watching your toddler climbing up on a chair or about to pull himself down on to something, and it’s pretty nerve-wracking.

“We’ve definitely got our hands full in our home.”

On life with partner Liev Schreiber – will they marry? They’ve been together since May of 2005:

“We are a family unit and we talk about the future, but we are not in so much of a hurry to get married.

“I’m not against marriage, but I’m not someone who’s craving it desperately.”

Balancing working and motherhood:

“I have slowed down. Pregnancy and babies tend to do that. The International is the only film I have done since being a mum.

“There was a period of time when there were eight projects in the can or in preparation, but I was burnt out. I had pretty much been on that grind for about five years after Mulholland Drive.

“Once I met Liev I felt I wanted more time to myself and for us to spend time together and then the pregnancy and the baby. Then last year he was shooting (X-Men Origins: Wolverine) in Australia and I like to be there, obviously, and then I got pregnant again.

“So that’s kind of how things have gone, but I really had wanted to be a mum for some time and I waited for the right situation.

“I wasn’t sure it was ever going to happen and now that I am a mum I still can’t believe it. I look at my kids and go, ‘Wow, you’re mine forever’.

“I get quite moved by that.”

Naomi says Liev is an “incredibly hands-on dad” who is “adored” by their oldest:

“In fact, when I’m in the room it’s like I don’t exist. Daddy plays rough-house. I try to, but I’m just not as fun or rough as Daddy. But it’s not just the playtime stuff for Liev. It’s changing diapers – he does everything with me.”

Unbeknownst to the public, Meryl Streep was six months pregnant with Mamie Gummer when she won the Oscar for Sophie’s Choice. The beading on her stunning gold gown kept all eyes on the star’s face, and the clever pleated skirt disguised her bump.

Lauren Bacall wasn’t nominated for any awards in 1952, but she got to watch her husband Humphrey Bogart walk away with his first and only Oscar, for Best Leading Actor in The African Queen. Designer Narcisco Rodriguez made three separate dresses for seven-months-pregnant Rachel Weisz to choose from; the Best Supporting Actress winner (for The Constant Gardener) selected a black off-the-shoulder number the day of the ceremony.

8. Nicole Kidman, 2008

Five-months-pregnant Nicole Kidman, in black Balenciaga, kept things simple — except for that L’Wren Scott diamond necklace, which weighed in at a whopping 1,399 carats.

9. Annette Bening, 2000

Pregnancy has never kept Annette Bening away from an awards ceremony; she attended the Golden Globes for Bugsy just ten days after giving birth, and in 2000, she made the rounds (along with husband and baby-daddy Warren Beatty) to accept accolades for her role in American Beauty. Although she lost the Best Supporting Actress Oscar to Hilary Swank (for Boys Don’t Cry), Bening looked stunning at the ceremony. She gave birth to daughter Ella two weeks later.

10. Cate Blanchett, 2008

2008 was a big year for Cate Blanchett, nominated in two Academy Awards categories (Best Actress for Elizabeth: The Golden Age and Best Supporting Actress for I’m Not There) and eight months pregnant at the ceremony. Rather than downplaying her bump, Cate Blanchett decked it out in the night’s most intriguing ensemble — lethal stilettos, a blue satin Dries Van Noten gown, oversized jewellery by Lorraine Schwartz jewels and a Roger Vivier clutch.

11. Vanessa Williams, 2000

Best Original Song presenter Vanessa Williams selected a basic black Carmen Marc Valvo gown to try and downplay her 18 kilos of pregnancy weight (and show off her fabulous mum-to-be cleavage). Her daughter was born two months later.

12. Judy Garland, 1954

No designer was making glamorous maternity gowns in 1955, but Judy Garland (nominated for A Star is Born) looked swanky in satin at the Oscar nominations telecast. She had to skip the actual ceremony, as her son Joey Luft was born the day before.

13. Jessica Alba, 2008

Given her year of clunkers (Good Luck Chuck, anybody? Fantastic Four 2?), Jessica Alba (7 months pregnant at the ceremony) failed to secure any Oscar nominations in 2008. However, her wine-colored, feathered Marchesa gown and Cartier diamonds put her at the top of many of the year’s best-dressed lists.

14. Marcia Gay Harden, 2004

Other stars have attended the ceremony seven months pregnant — but so far, Marcia Gay Harden (nominated for Mystic River) is the only one to have done it with twins. Her royal blue Badgley Mischka gown, lined at the waist with antique beads, was selected to show off her growing belly.

15. Glenn Close, 1988

Nominated for Fatal Attraction, Glenn Close nearly didn’t make the ceremony because of a horrendous traffic jam — she was one of several stars who got out of her limo and walked! Her daughter Annie was born just fifteen days after the ceremony.

But this clip of Naomi Watts on David Letterman the other night (thanks Jezebel) had me both frowning in sympathy and laughing my weary ass off. It doesn’t matter who you are: Kids are going to make you sleepless and at some point, you are going to feel like dying.

It’s worth a look. Watts explains the brain dead effect of newborns as “Lactose Labotomies,” while Dave admits that at some point after his son was born, the best way to regain sleep, he considered, was killing himself.
